DHI Students To Help Run Upcoming Nashville Music Festival

pilgrimage 2016

Willis Clan At The Irish City Music FestivalDark Horse Institute Audio Engineering and Music Business students will get even more hands-on experience by being involved in another music festival. The last music festival we were involved in The Pilgrimage Festival was a great success and huge learning experience for students. This March, students will get to be involved even more in the Music City Irish Fest hosted by the Willis Family (yep, that musical family from the TLC TV show and America’s Got Talent). As long-time admirers of Dark Horse Recording, the Willis Family even modeled the design of one of their early home studios after the cabin-esque look and feel of The Lodge.

St Pattys Nashville Status dressed up for FestivalOur students will be directly involved in the production of the festival, happening March 12 on Demonbreun Street in downtown Nashville. This street is known for it’s statues in their “birthday suits” which they famously decorate every year in less scandalous skirts and kilts. Students will not only be assisting with running live sound and lighting, running cable, stage management, but our music business students will be helping with talent handling, concert logistics and promotion.

The lineup includes diverse acts as: Nashville Pipes and Drums, Belfast Songwriters, We Banjo 3, the Southern Academy of Irish Step Dancers (a lot of sound engineering goes into step dancing performances, including precise stage micing to pick up the sound of the dancers’ shoes, running tracks and micing live instrumentalists) and of course, the Willis Family themselves will be performing.

We’re looking forward to taking part in this Nashville tradition and allowing our students to work directly with live bands and performers at a festival in the nation’s music capital. We’re sure it will be a memorable and great learning experience for everyone involved.
