A Few Spots Still Open In Our Music Business Class Starting January 4

A Few Spots Open In Our Music Business Class

We have a few openings left in our inaugural class of the Dark Horse Institute’s Music Business program beginning January 4. During this 12-week program, you’ll learn about and experience the inner workings of Artist Management, A&R and Record Company Operations, Booking and Touring, Marketing, Promotion, and Music Publishing. Taught by both myself, Tom Willett — indie label founder (LA) and VP of Marketing at Sony Music (NY) as a well as artist, songwriter, producer, agent, manager, and Anthony Corder — RCA/Provident and publishing executive and A&M recording artist (Tora Tora), you’ll discover all the ways you can jump-start your career in music business.

Digital recording and distribution have completely rearranged the old record business structure. Super-producer T Bone Burnett famously noted that this is a terrible time to be in the record business, but a great time to be in the music business. You’ll learn the road-tested principles of the major labels plus the cutting edge approaches now being forged by new thought leaders in the industry.  Find out for yourself the answers to three critical questions: “Have you got it?”—meaning do you have the aptitude, personality and skills to work in the music business? “Do you get it?”–are you committed to the hard work, long hours and life-long learning that will help you succeed? And “do you want it?” Have you got the ambition, the desire and the work ethic to build a solid career, step-by-step over the long haul?

We’ll help you answer all three of those questions, and through our intensive hands-on learning process, you’ll be among the best-equipped, most-qualified candidates for your first job. Your final project (which begins your 2nd week) will include scouting, signing and developing an indie band or solo artist and, in conjunction with Audio Engineering students, prepare them for the production of a 6-song EP.
